Tattoo care? I just got a tattoo on my foot...?

the artist told me to take care of it in a weird way. First I was to put in under scolding water (I did that) and wash it. Then they told me to leave it alone. Don't put anything on it and just let it dry out. But i've never heard that before. They told me to keep it uncovered, go bare foot and wear flip flops if I have to wear shoes at all, which I have been. (I just got it last night)

I'm not listening to the no lotion or vaseline rule though. So far I have put very little organic, fragrance free lotion on it, just so it doesn't dry out. But this afternoon I have to go out in the sun, along with every afternoon. I put some aveeno sun screen on it earlier, but was that a good idea? Should I not be listening to the artist? I just don't want it to dry out and look weird. And was it a mistake to put sun screen on it? I just don't want it to fade, or get infected!

My lord, your tattoo artist is stupid!!!!! Keep it moist!! But not too moist. Also don't soak it in water. Sun is BAD during the time it's healing.Even after it's done healing use pleanty of sun screen. Scalding hot water was a bad idea, it damages your skin. You do want your tattoo to breath though so when you arent in the sun be sure to walk around with no socks and shoes. Sun screen was ok just make sure its covered until it heals if you go out in the sun.
