Easily irritated skin? Skin Care For Sensitive Skin

Is your skin showing signs of redness and irritation after using a particular product for skin care? If so, you probably have sensitive skin. Some symptoms of sensitive skin include: tightening or tingling of the skin, invisible signs of discomfort of the skin, the skin overreacts to things like stress, shaving, and drying and recurring irritation skin. Some products for skin care aggravate these symptoms. So if you're looking for tips on skin care for sensitive skin, read on.

If you have sensitive skin then maybe it is time to change your routine skin care. Read the label from your current skin care. Do you have "hypoallergenic" or "for sensitive skin" written on the label? If not, download it. Before purchasing any product from skin care, you have to look out for labels openly mention the fact that it is safe for sensitive skin.

Read the ingredients list. Products that contain alcohol, chemicals, additives and other synthetic ingredients may aggravate sensitive skin, so choose products with natural ingredients like organic aloe. All natural products care or organic skin can be found as easily as those that contain alcohol, so it should not be a problem trying to find the right product skin care for sensitive skin on your local drugstore or cosmetics stores counter, or anywhere else that the products of skin care can be commonly found and purchased.

Now move to your routine skin care, you should use a makeup remover before proceeding to wash his face. If you have sensitive skin, you should choose a makeup remover that is soap-free. Once again, keeping the first point in mind, look for products labeled as "skin sensitive "or" soft skin ". These would probably be the best choice for your sensitive skin, but if in doubt, clarify with knowledgeable sales assistant department store cosmetics.

Once you've bought that new makeup remover, you have to remember is to not use a washcloth to apply to the skin. This is because cloth can be abrasive to the skin, especially sensitive skin, and tends to irritate the skin. Use a soft cotton swab instead. Beyond cloth, There are other abrasives that you should avoid, such as exfoliating granules, no matter how small. These grains may be too hard on sensitive skin, and you risk irritating your skin rather than peeling. Consider a cleanser that contains salicylic acid instead to help exfoliate pores.

It is important to protect sensitive skin sun damage, but some sunscreens aggravate sensitive skins so much that many people decide to end the plot completely. If your skin is particularly sensitive should apply sunscreen daily to protect yourself from the sun, preferably with a minimum SPF 15. Use a sunscreen that is a gel instead of a petroleum-based one, because it is less fat. And to avoid skin irritation from sunscreens, use one that contains zinc or titanium dioxide, as part of its ingredients as that these two are not absorbed by the skin unlike sunscreens that contain Parsol 1789, the chemical responsible for skin irritation to sensitive skin.

Skin Care for sensitive skin is relatively easy these days, especially when you can find much information on how to deal with the line trouble. But to be on the safe side, be sure to consult your doctor or dermatologist before trying the advice you find on the Internet.

Basis Soap the best and Dr. recommended

by GMD from New Jersey on 2010-08-31
This soap was recommended by my Dr. I bought the clear brown one first(forgot which Basis this is) and loved it. i then by mistake ordered the white or sensitive skin one and the clear one as well. All three of these soaps are wonderful. Leave no residue, work well for sensitive skin or problem skin. i love the feel. i am also highly sensitive to smells and this soap is great with no added scent to it.I also decided to buy the face liquid that comes in the tube and this works wonderful as i have never used a regular bar soap on my face. Bar soap always made my face red.I have continued to order this product through Amazon as it has the best price. i buy them 6 or more at a time and the price is much cheaper than in the stores. That is IF you can find it in stores.

Basis Soap is Great!

by B. Chrestman from Dallas, Texas on 2010-07-13
Face soap and creamy don't seem to fit in the same description---until I tried Basis Soap. It has the moisture I need to keep my skin from drying out, and it feels wonderful. Not real fragrant, but clean-smelling. I love it!

my choice for facial soap

by J. J. Tan from Fremont, CA United States on 2010-05-27
My top and only choice for facial soap. It's cheap and very effective, what more can you ask for. It's very gentle on your skin, won't dry it out, but has great cleaning power--gets everything off your face without leaving anything else on like other face washes do. This soap paired with acne.org benzoyl peroxide 2.5% cream spread generously has been my working solution to acne for at least 8 years!

Sensitive Skin

by Laura Smith from on 2010-04-15
I have used Basis Soap for many years now and just love it. Because of my sensitive skin and my sensitivity to fragrances I have to be careful what I use. This is one of the best products for both problems. If you have sensitive skin and have problems with fragrances I would highly recommend this product. This is one of the best soaps on the market for both problems. I give Basis 5+ stars.

Easy Buy

We have used Basis soap for many years. Recently it has not been in the local stores. Shopping through Amazon has made it very easy for us to buy Basis. Now we don't have to go on a soap hunt through our local stores.

wonderful facial moisturizer

by sac from on 2010-07-27
i LOVE this product. i have been buying it for years, but lately have had trouble finding it in the local stores. i like this version, as it has Q-10 in it. i really think it help smooth fine lines. It is NOT greasy, it doesn't have a fragrance, and a little goes a long way. I have SUPER-SENSITIVE skin and I have never had a problem with this moisturizer. It also does not clog your pores.

Love this Lotion!

by Carolaf from Sacramento, CA USA on 2010-05-30
I've been using this lotion for a few years, along with the Q10 night cream ... although I'm not very consistent with the night cream. I started using it initially because my skin is sensitive with dermatitas, and this lotion was very soothing. I use the day cream faithfully, every day. Recently, my two younger sisters asked what I used(!)and started using it for themselves. I went to a new dermatologist, who thought I looked years younger than I am. I'm very pleased with this, and those recent comments from others will keep me using it! It feels good going on, doesn't irritate my sensitive skin, works well under makeup. Sometimes in the winter when my skin gets very dry, I use the night cream, but it doesn't have spf, so I have to add a sunscreen. If you have sensitive skin, this is a must-have!

happy with it

I have used this product for at least ten years. I'm always told I don't look as old as I am which is 62. The only problem I have is, this is all that I use on my face and it feels a little sticky and shiny. Sometimes I do use a loose powder which helps.

I am so glad I bought this!

by N. Ward from Knoxville, TN on 2010-04-27
I have struggled with acne since I was 14 (I am now 23), nothing has ever worked, not even expensive Proactiv. I bought this moisturizer about 3 weeks ago and my skin how slowly started to clear up. I guess I was using the wrong moisturizer all along. I wish I would have seen this product years ago! I now use the whole oil-free non-comedogenic Neutrogena line.

Great basic moisturizer!

by Linda from Brooklyn, NY on 2009-12-02
I'm now finishing up my second bottle of these and this is a dependable product. It does not irritate my sensitive skin, in part because it is fragrance free. I am one who likes her products basic, clean and with no frills and this is definitely one of those. Should anything go wrong with my skin due to experimentation with new products, I know that I can come back to this to moisturize my skin without too many unnecessary and irritating chemicals. As for moisturizing, it does a good job. However, for deep moisture, I would look for something heavier. (I'm currently looking for a heavier moisturizer for the winter if anyone has any recommendations.)Overall, I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a fragrance-free, basic, go-to moisturizer!

Works well

by M. Randall from Allen Park, MI on 2009-04-24
I use this product because I wash my face twice a day with Neutragena Men's "Skin clearing face wash". And while that wash does a good job of not overdrying, it still does tend to make my face flake from time to time. So I decided to stick with Neutrogena and get their oil free moisture to use in conjuntion with the wash. Well it does what it claims; leaves skin moistened and is oil free and doesn't give a shiney look to your face. One squirt is enough for your whole face but you will want to make sure your hands are a little damp so you can spread it better.

Nourish your skin with Dove's mildest cleanser ever. Dove Sensitive Skin Nourishing Body Wash has NutriumMoisture, a breakthrough formula of 100-percent natural moisturizers that can absorb completely to nourish deep down. Hypoallergenic, unscented and dermatologist-recommended. What does new Dove Body Wash do for skin that others don't? Most cleansers wash away too much. Did you know that other body washes can remove your skin's own natural moisture while they cleanse? What does that do? It robs your skin of essential nourishment. And that can keep it from looking and feeling beautiful. And they don't give back what skin really needs. Heavy moisturizers are often added into body washes to make up for the loss. But they're not identical to your skin's moisture, so they tend to sit on the surface and don't get fully absorbed. Natural moisture is what's needed to nourish deep down. No other body wash works like Dove®. Introducing New Dove® Body Wash with NutriumMoisture™, a patent-pending breakthrough technology that combines gentle cleansing with skin-identical moisturizers--the kind of moisture your skin really needs. This revolutionary formula makes sure your skin's natural moisture is right where it belongs--providing the most effective natural nourishment you can get from a body wash. Ultra-mild cleansing goes easy on skin. Dove® contains the most gentle cleansing technology ever available in a body wash. It's designed to wash away only what it should--dirt and oil. Not your skin's natural moisture. Deep-down nourishment answers the need. The richest blend of natural moisturizers in NutriumMoisture™ work together to give your skin what it needs, where it needs it. And it all happens while you shower:  Soybean oil - a rich source of nourishment naturally found in skin - absorbs quickly to smooth and soften skin  Lipids - identical to the ones your skin produces - absorb deep into your skin's surface layers to restore hydration naturally  Glycerin - a humectant - helps hold the natural moisture in for lasting nourishment It's a difference you'll feel. Again and again. In a recent consumer study, 88% of women polled said their skin felt soft and smooth after using it. Now it's your turn. Shower your skin every day with New Dove® Body Wash with NutriumMoisture™ and get the superior natural nourishment your skin deserves.

Redesign bad on so many levels

by Lone Writer from on 2010-06-27
I've been using Dove body wash on and off for the last 15 years, and this redesign is disappointing enough that Dove has lost me as a customer. The 'unscented' wash has a strong chemical odor, it no longer lathers well (the old formulation was a bubbly dream), and the bottle shape is terrible. The old top used to be flat and wide, so when you were running low, you could store the bottle upside down and use every last bit.The results feel OK on my skin, but it doesn't perform better than the previous formulation, and the cons outweigh the putative pros. You can get better body washes that don't stink. Even glycerin gel washes lather more effectively than this one.Between this redesign and lotion bottles with a pump (that don't reach to the bottom of the bottle), I refuse to be wasteful and throw more money at the manufacturers who count on consumers being too lazy or stupid to figure out a way to access the last 1/4 to 1/3 of the product. (I use the serrated knife to cut the bottom off such bottles and scoop out the *significant* remainder with a clean spatula into a separate jar, giving me up to another month of use.)

Not unscented. Fragrance listed in ingredients

by JEB from california on 2010-05-07
I ordered this Dove because it said unscented. It arrived, I opened it and it has a fragrance. I checked the ingredients and sure enough it says fragrance. Totally confused how the Dove is labeled unscented but it is not. The fragrance is not too overwhelming. I notified Amazon of this issue and applied for a return. I was going to return it, but I had opened one of the bottles and they came in a pack of 3 so I guess I am stuck with it. I use it, it feels good on the skin, but beware if you truly want unscented. I plan to contact Dove directly. I gave it 3 stars because I feel it is a good overal product. Two star deduction because of the mislabeling.

Not unscented

by L. Andersen from on 2010-04-17
I used this product for years, and then Dove changed the formula. Now I can't use it thanks to its supposedly unscented fragrance. I have allergies and found myself sneezing every time I tried to use it. I am now stuck trying to find some other product that truly has no scent. Very disappointed!

Where do they get off, calling this unscented??

by K. Hughes from California on 2010-03-30
OK, I am sensitive to fragrances and scents in products. I saw this body wash for sensitive skin, with Unscented on the label. I thought, "Great!" Bought it. Tried it, and wondered why my hands smelled. Read the fine print on the label--it has fragrance in it!! It is not unscented!! This is misleading labeling. I thought I would use it by the kitchen sink as a hand wash rather than a body wash, and it has enough fragrance in it that my cat will not eat her food if I touch it after using this product on my hands. To all the reviewers who love this...OK, maybe the soap part works for your sensitive skin. But if your skin is sensitive to fragrance, like mine, or you have nasal allergies to fragrances, DO NOT buy this product.Do I sound upset? I am upset--how can a reputable company call a scented product "unscented" and sleep at night? Why not just say "sensitive skin" and leave it at that? Don't make untrue claims on your label.

Dove Body Wash - Excellent Body Cleanser

by Lee Mellott from Frederick, Maryland on 2010-01-23
Dove Body Wash is an excellent product to help the skin retain its natural moisture. Many body washes create the feeling of skin softness but are actually stripping the body of moisture. So the skin feels soft to the touch temporarily but quickly becomes dry again.Dove Body Wash ingredients clean gently and the residue it leaves results in a protective barrier on the skin to help the skin stay hydrated. The key to success with Dove Body Wash is to give it time. Over time the ingredients in Dove Body Wash will build up so that your skin's moisture level is greatly improved. And you will enjoy soft, sensual skin. Many people have dry elbows and knees in addition to dry body skin, especially in winter. But if you use the wash on a consistent basis this can be alleviated. The length of time will depend on how dry your skin is. Plan on about a month of consistent use to get rid of most dry areas.I use it on a daily basis and found each day my skin becoming softer and hydrated. It took about 3 weeks for my elbows to become permanently soft. (I am sure they would become dry again if I discontinued use.)If you want lovely, soft skin instead of buying a product that tricks your skin with a temporary good feel that never becomes permanent, try Dove Body Wash instead. My only complaint on the product is it is hard to get out of the bottle when you are near the end. However, given the excellent price point and the excellent results it is a great buy.~ Lee Mellott

Eureka! The only thing that works for me!

by Lindsay from AZ on 2010-09-07
I have been allergic to sunscreen (and therefore haven't worn any) since I was twelve years old. Can't even use makeup, chapstick, etc with it in it. Broke out in little water blisters, and no one could figure it out....so I've just gone without. Nearly 18 years later, a dermatologist gave me some samples of the Vanicream Sunscreen for Sensitive skin. Eureka! I have never written a review on Amazon, but I have to say this product is amazing for me and hopefully for anyone with a similar issue. I recently spent 4 hours on boat, applied the sunscreen only once (spf 60), and didn't burn, nor did I have a reaction! This was the true test! I would never have been able to enjoy an event like that in a bathing suit without worrying about getting burnt, and it's a good thing because I was in a wedding 2 days later!

for truly sensitive skin, this is a good find.

by mike and danielle from on 2010-09-06
one of my daughters has the most sensitive skin. Breaks out in hives and rashes from all sunscreens. Even all the ones that say they are for sensitive skin, & hypo allergenic etc. So far in her five years, we have found only two brands that don't cause her a reaction. Vanicream 60 is one of them, and Soleo is the other. The Vanicream is a much better value, at about 1/2 the price of the Soleo. We are very happy to have found this product.

Great price for a great product!

by DocNiel from New Jersey on 2010-08-31
My son has sensitive skin, and has broken out with rashes almost immediately after using any sun-screen. We've used this product for over 3 years, and the current price we paid was great.

by Mimi in Knoxville from on 2010-08-17
This product was recommended by my granddaughter's dermatologist for use on her skin instead of the usual sunscreen products that made her eczema much worse. It has worked for very well for her. The zinc oxide makes it a little messier than most sunscreen products but it is worth putting up with that since she does not break out using it. Will by buying it again!

super sunscreen

by oscar from on 2010-08-03
This product provides the best protection I have ever gotten from a sunscreen. It is long lasting and stays on even after a dip in the pool after golf. My sensitive skin (eczema) has not had any adverse reaction to its ingredients. Although it is a little greasy, the terrific protection is worth it.

Excellent for acne prone skin

by Meghan from on 2010-08-17
For years I purchased expensive, high end products that claimed to be gentle, calming and non-aggravating for acne. None of them worked as well as I had hoped, and furthermore they often irritated my skin and made my acne worse when used in conjunction with other prescribed acne medications. Since I clearly wasn't choosing the right cleanser on my own, I spoke to my dermatologist and asked what they would recommend. They told me to try this unscented Dove bar soap.I was a little skeptical at first; however, after a month of using this soap twice a day, I am happy to say that it works wonderfully! My skin looks and feels amazing. Furthermore, when using it with topical acne medications my skin is unbothered and does not become painfully dry as it used to with other face washes. It's very convenient (I now can use the same soap to wash my body and my face which is a time saver!), and best of all it's very reasonably priced and readily available! I no longer spend $20, $30 or even more on facial soaps that don't really work, and I don't have to waste my time hunting them down at specialty stores. If you have severe acne and/or are looking for a gentle, non-drying, non-comedogenic cleanser that won't break your budget, give this a shot! Don't hesitate to put it on your face, as it really works as an amazing facial cleanser.

Use before getting a spray tan & after for maintaing it...

by Lynn from on 2010-04-24
I love Dove soap. It's my favorite. I don't like liquid soap which to me seems to be way expensive & wasteful. So when my daughter called and asked if we had Dove soap at home I said, "Yes, we always do." But then she stipulated unscented...I never knew there was such a thing. She went on to say that she was going to get a spray tan & a few soaps were recommended because their PH level was lower & they don't contain mineral oil, baby oil, etc. Dove soap for sensitive skin/unscented is also recommended to maintain the spray tan. Soaps that have mineral oil or high alcohol can strip and breakdown the tan faster. She purchased the Dove for sensitive skin/unscented, her tan looks absolutely wonderful & will last longer because she'll use this soap along with Jergens Shea Butter Lotion - 16.8 oz.. Who knew there are so many rules...98% of which I didn't add to this review...for getting a spray tan!?!

Fantastic Soap!

by Grateful from California on 2010-01-29
I have oily, itchy, sensitive skin and this is the best soap I've used. I keep it in a soap dish that doesn't allow the soap bar to sit in any water in order for it to last longer. I have no complaints about it!

Great for Dry Skin

by Barb from Portsmouth, Va United States on 2010-01-10
I purchased the Dove for sensitive skin, as the soap I was regularly washing with made my skin so dry, it would turn red and have a burning sensation. After using this soap, I no longer have that problem! I had to get used to the non-scent, but it was a quick adjustment. I'm not understanding the reviews stating that the bar doesn't last very long. For me, it lasts about as long as the other soaps I have used (about 2 1/2 weeks),and I shower every day, twice a day. Maybe some people put the soap in a watery soap dish ( I put mine in a wire shower rack). I highly recommend this soap!

Great Product for Sensitive Skin

by CatsNQuilts from on 2010-06-26
This is a product my sister uses for her sensitive skin. She has used this beauty fluid for years because it is gentle and fragrance free. She couldn't find it locally, so we checked Amazon and they had the best deal set up under their subscribe and save program with free shipping (no $25 minimum purchase required). Since we could cancel the next order any time before it ships, we figured it was worth signing up for the program. My sister found out that this product had been discontinued so she contacted the company to complain and was told by their customer service rep that it is still available. She thinks the company may have reversed their decision to discontinue the product after receiving numerous complaints. But we will see if it is available here again in a few months. She can't use the new formulation because the sunscreen additive irritates her skin.

I got this in a two pack from amazons subscribe and save promotion. It is the sensitive formula and it is a two pack of the 6 oz. hydrating beauty fluid. I am a long time olay user. I like how this one hydrates your skin well, while not irrating sensitive skin like mine. I am have sensitive skin and a lot of standard beauty products tend to irritate my skin, so I try to get sensitive formulas when possible. I would definitely recommend getting this one you will not be disappointed

A perfect skin moisturizer

by DSG100 from Destin, FL on 2010-06-13
I have been using Oil of Olay Beauty Fluid for Sensitive Skin for well over 15 years. I have dry skin and must moisturize immediately after I shower. It is non-greasy, absorbs quickly, light, and instantly moisturizes my face. I never have break-outs or clogged pores (at least not due to this moisturizer.) I have found other moisturizers to not absorb well, leaving a greasy sheen on my face, or to be too perfumy, or to discolor in the bottle over time. Additionally I live in a very humid climate and I need moisturizer to absorb instantly, not linger on my skin and soon mix with sweat and have to be wiped off.For some reason you can buy regular Oil of Olay Beauty Fluid in the stores but not the type for Sensitive Skin, so I have to buy this product online. I prefer the Sensitive Skin version because it has no scent - for some reason my husband doesn't like the scent of regular Oil of Olay.

Good stuff...no irritation

I use it after shower and shaving. It's the one reasonably priced face cream that doesn't cause any problems; it only does what it's supposed to. Highly recommended.

I buy it just for the moisturizer!

by LuvGirl from New York ,NY USA on 2010-06-07
I love the moisturizer that they have in this pack! I don't have sensitive skin so I use the regular Acne Free system and it really works, but it does not come with a moisturizer, and when I try other moisturizers they eventually break me out, so I decided to try the moisturizer that's in the Acne Free Sensitive pack, and it works like a dream! The only problem I have now is that I alway have to buy both packs, and the sensitive skin one is hard to find in stores, so I have to order it all the time. I wish they would get it back into the stores, or better yet sell the moisturizer by itself!

Great

Tried alot of acne systems, this is by far the best! I use this one because it is for sensitive skin. Very gentle, and it lasts a LONG TIME! Unlike something like ProActiv that you pay 40 dollars for, and it only lasts a month. You pay not even 20 for this and it lasts me about 3 1/2-4 months! Great! Love, love, love this and would reccommend it to anyone!

Finally, something that works for me!!!

by SUJEKA from CA on 2010-03-09
I am in my mid-40s and have been suffering from ever-worsening acne for some years. It was much worse than when I was in my teens, and had gotten to the point where I felt truly embarrassed about my skin. It was especially bad with the hormonal fluctuations of my menstrual cycle. I tried MANY different products, both over the counter and prescribed by my doctor. Nothing seemed to make the slightest difference. I had tried Pro-Active, as well -- nothing. Acne Free Sensitive has made a HUGE improvement in my skin! I won't say it is perfect all the time, but blemishes are much fewer, smaller and clear up much faster, without leaving a mark. It worked better when I started being fairly liberal with the step 3 (benzoil peroxide) cream. My one complaint is that you can't buy each product seperately. I don't need a lot of moisturizer, so I always have lots of that, but run out of the other things. Bottom line: I think everyone's skin is very individual, so this product may not work for you -- but lordy, I sure am grateful it has worked so well for me! Good luck.

Absolutely no need for expensive moisturizers.....

by Caprica from Maryland on 2010-01-31
This stuff is the BEST and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg!! No perfumes or anything that can irritate your skin.Just simple, plain, no-nonsense moisturizer--for use on your face and all over.A few years' ago, my eyes started burning and tearing after a long day of wearing makeup at work. It got worse, I couldn't wait to get home and wash my face. It took a while, but I finally figured out it wasn't just the makeup, it was the moisturizer I was using also.Long-story-short, my cousin introduced me to this. I buy the biggest tub they offer (20 oz). I use it under makeup in the a.m., my arms and elbows; and at night after washing my face (they make a cleanser also, if you're interested). You can spend ridiculous amounts of $$ on moisturizers; believe me, I've done it. No more. This stuff works the best for me; I won't use anything else.

Sensitive Skin-Cetaphil

by Houston Chic from Houston, TX on 2009-03-16
My face usually turns bright red when I put soap or lotion on my skin, but not this time. It is very light weight and not to oily. Plus, it doesn't have all those extra chemicals that often upset my skin. You may need to apply the cream twice or three times if you have really dry skin. This cetaphil cream is great for people who have skin conditions (rosea) or just have sensitive skin. I couldn't find anything on the package showing that it contains any vitamins. I wish it did. The product at least is gentle and can be used every day. (Tip: Look at the weight of the product, some containers are very large) Also Recommend: I like to use this product after I use Dermadoctor mild senstive skin (forget the exact name) cleaner (Dermadoctor brand is medicated for Rosea treatment).

This is a great product. my skin condition requires daily covering from head to toe. This does the job. However the suppler on Amazon is overpriced. Shop around.
