Good cheap aftershave which is also good for the skin?

I have never had a perfect skin and often I find that expensive products do not work better on my skin that cheap .. I currently take a hot shower and wash whole body and face with soap bronners dr ... I then barbasol and shave with Gillette sensor excel .. I am looking for a good face lotion that is not expensive to put aftershave .. I currently use Neutrogena for men, since it has an SPF and other recommendations ..?

I can use an astringent with salicylic acid to tighten the pores and prevent acne, then follow up with Neutrogena anti-wrinkle cream with SPF. works great for keeping my skin clear and my face hydrated all day.

Good for summer.

by white cloud from USA on 2010-05-15
Love the smell - gentle, 'fresh', lavender+coconut scent. Great lotion for summer - but not as moisturizing as a typical cream. My skin dries up in heavily air-conditioned rooms; I wouldn't use this in winter.

The Cream for People who Don't Need Cream - or a nice scent!

by Jennifer M. Macleod from Canada on 2009-10-05
This is easily the worst hand cream I have ever used. We are BIG fans of Dr. Bronner's soaps, and go out of our way to find them (it's not always easy here). They are pure, smell good, and rinse super-clean. They're also the only thing I use on my little kids' bodies and hair.So when I was looking for a hand/body lotion and saw that Dr. Bronner's made one, I jumped at the chance to buy it online. I also thought coconut-lavender sounded like an intriguing combination; certainly, I like both scents individually.WELL. Just goes to show you - some things must be bought in person so you can find out quickly and for free that they simply do not work.Other reviewers have said this cream is light and absorbs well. True! But along with that comes little or no ability to moisturize skin. I have used many brands of lotion, enough to know that the two are not necessarily mutually exclusive: I've used light creams that do moisturize; Dr. Bronner's simply does not.So if you don't NEED cream to keep your skin moist, go ahead and try this one!Oh, but not if you want a nice scent. The coconut-lavender combination, in my opinion, simply does not work. It may be natural, but ends up smelling more chemically and artificial than some of the commercial brands of hand lotion I've tried. It is a harsh, cloying odour that smells like something you'd use to scrub a toilet.I realize that's a matter of taste (though my 13-year-old daughter largely agrees and says she hates this cream). Some people may find the combination of coconut and lavender simply divine. Not me. Not us.As far as I'm concerned, this lotion is simply awful; a waste of money. I replaced it with a bottle of Neutrogena Norwegian Formula (which cost less) and am now reasonably happy with the state, and smell, of my skin.

absorbs quickly, light scent, good moisture

by Dani O from San Francisco on 2009-04-04
This is a great lotion, lightweight so no greasy skin after putting it on. Absorbs quickly. Has a nice light scent which is lovely while you're applying the lotion and then you don't really smell anymore after your skin absorbs it. I have normal skin and this is plenty moisturizing for me.

Not moisturizing at all :(

by LoveToRun from California, USA on 2009-02-03
Very light feel, nice scent, great ingredients but does not moisturize my skin at all (granted, I do have very dry skin). Might be good for somebody who doesn't need much moisturizing...

Great lotion!

by April Fear from CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA United States on 2008-12-18
I love this lotion! It has a nice light scent, is very moisturizing and doesn't contain any petroleum products. What more could you ask for?

a lotion that makes your skin dry??

by Lee Ann Kostelnik from on 2010-08-31
I use Dr. Bronners soaps all the time. This lotion was disappointing. It was runny and had a lot of alcohol in it. The alcohol evaporages quickly and left my skin feeling very dry. I bought it because I liked the fragrance. Now it sits there being unused.

it's ok.

by E. Etjeke from on 2009-01-14
This lotion is ok. It has alcohol in it, and sometimes leaves my skin feeling dry.

great organic lotion

by Angela Katsavavakis from Georgia, USA on 2008-02-01
i have been using dr bronner's soaps for a while now. and i think they are great. so when i realized they also make lotions and balms i decided to give it a try. i have had a hard time finding an organic lotion that works well. many companies claim to be organic but they are dubiously organic. i also like the fact that dr bronner's now uses fair trade ingredients. this lotion is very light but moisturizes well. leaves your skin soft but not greasy. it also smells wonderful, with the scent coming from organic essential oils, not from mysterious fragance sources. the bottle is recyclable plastic #1, which is good. i wished it was glass, for the best environmental aspect. but i settle for #1 plastic.

Okay lotion...

by GeminiPeace from on 2008-01-14
I usually love lavender and love orange...together though...kind of funny. Feels just okay, not fantastic.

Truly Magic Organic Lotion

by Cell Phone User from USA on 2008-01-02
The lavender orange scent is refreshing and light and not a bit heavy. The consistency of this lotion is runny out of the bottle, but goes on like liquid silk with a heavenly rich feeling. Say good-bye to petrochemically based lotion forever! Your skin will love you for it. This lotion is very good for winter stressed skin or sun birds.

Silky-smooth!

by J. Woodside from Louisiana on 2009-04-03
I was so excited to find this lotion! I love the Dr. Bronner's brand and I use their soaps all the time. This has the best ingredients if you're looking for something organic and if you're wanting to avoid nasty chemicals. It takes only very little to cover your hands, which is great because the bottle will last a long time. It's not greasy at all and it doesn't have a watery feel like some lotions do either. It feels very silky-smooth and nice. My only complaint is that it apparently has A LOT of alcohol in it. I'm sure it's there as a preservative, but the alcohol smell overwhelms the peppermint smell, which is a little disappointing. I'm also concerned that so much alcohol could dry my skin out instead of moisturzing. I alternate what I use on my hands between this, jojoba oil (which feels great and is good for you skin), and organic coconut oil (which feels great and is known to keep your skin youthful looking, but is definitely greasy until it soaks in after a couple of minutes). I'm happy to have Dr. Bronner's as an occasional lotion.

Greasy but smells great

by J. Kalis from Columbus, OH USA on 2009-03-15
I bought this at a local food store and had high hopes for it because of the great reviews here. It smells fantastic but after I put it on, my hands are just way too greasy. I feel like I need to wipe them off on my clothes. I really hoped to love this lotion, but I won't buy it again. I love the peppermint soap though!

Natural lotion that works

by Byte Time from USA on 2008-12-29
I've used the Bronner's liquid peppermint soap for many years and this lotion is another product that has found a permanent place in my home. The lotion is very light, kind of runny, not a heavy Vaseline-style, and non-greasy. I can't stand greasy lotion. As a man, my hands get dried out pretty bad from work, really split bad sometimes, and this stuff brings them back to life. The peppermint smell is light, I was skeptical at first, but it's not a strong smell. My wife really likes it too, especially since it smooths my hands and she also likes the smell.I gave this lotion as a gift to some family members and they were raving about how good it works. Time to order more.

Love it!

by MsKatt from Michigan, USA on 2007-07-23
This works great! It's not greasy or slimy. The peppermint is refreshing...the best part is no harmful chemicals!

Love this lotion!

by PhoenixRising from on 2009-12-10
I absolutely hate lotions that are sticky and greasy. I have been searching for an organic lotion that is light, absorbs quickly, and actually moisturizes my skin. I read the reviews for Dr. Bronner's/Sun Dog's lotions and thought I would give it a try. I have found the perfect lotion for me. I thought the lavender and orange might be a little weird, but the scent is great, and fades to the point where it is barely noticeable after a short time. I highly recommend this product!

Broken bottle, no respnse to my email

by Corey L. Green from Texas on 2009-12-04
I think I like this product, however I will not order from The Vitamin Shop again. I ordered several items and they were just thrown into a box with no packing material. The lotion arrived broken with a big mess in the box. I wrote to the Vitamin Shop and reported the damage. They never replied to my email. I would probably buy this product again, but I will never order from the Vitamin Shop again.

Disappointed

by K. Reber from Sacramento, CA on 2009-10-18
I didn't like this lotion. I was disappointed because I love Dr. Bronner's other products. It's nice when you fist put it on but it rubs off like flakey skin.

Magic Lotion!

by nihil from Chicago/NW Indiana, USA on 2008-03-19
I absolutely LOVE this lotion. I have extremely sensitive skin and almost every product from the drugstores either dries my skin out more or gives me some sort of reaction. This lotion does neither and is fantastic. It is not oily, greasy, or sticky (I promise!)Honestly, I had issues with using lotions because of them being the latter and I didn't like the way they felt but this stuff is awesome. I am a computer tech for a school coporation, I wash my hands A LOT, therefore they get very dry in winter and crack but not anymore!

The lotion is so soothing

by Cell Phone User from USA on 2008-02-04
I received a bottle of this for Christmas. I love that it is USDA certified organic with no nasty petro-chems. It also smells great - mild and refreshingly clean. It is very moisturizing due to the jojoba oil and renders my skin silky soft...... I would definitely purchase this item for myself.

I love this, but I LOVE patchouli!

by M. Buehl from Northern Colorado on 2010-01-28
If you're looking for a very moisturizing, emollient lotion, this is not for you. If you just love the smell of patchouli, this IS for you! I've become more cautious about how much and when I use this lotion after a number of people (including a stranger at the store!) have commented on my scent. Mind you, this is long after I've applied it and honestly can no longer detect the smell myself! And, as another reviewer mentioned, the scent does pass on to clothing...people have been able to smell patchouli on me even when I'm not wearing the lotion, due to the scent transfering onto my sweater or coat. I LOVE the smell of patchouli oil, but realize not everyone shares my affection for it. ;)

Does not moisturize AT ALL

by kate from Chapel Hill, NC on 2010-01-03
I was seeking a nice, non-oily lotion to soothe my dry hands in this cold winter weather. I actually had the chance to try before buying (at my local co-op). The bad part is, I was fooled into thinking this product worked. It appears to moisturize for about 5 minutes, but I've now come to realize that after those few, spare minutes, I must reapply. It leaves a sheen of oil on the skin, which makes me think that the ingredients aren't being absorbed. My skin still feels very dry. The fragrance is simply OVERPOWERING. I love patchouli, and I even bought the lavender scented lotion, and they are both extremely loud - some of the most highly scented perfumes I have ever used. The first time I applied it at home, my boyfriend asked if I had sprayed perfume. I am so very disappointed in this product. Never again will I purchase anything from Dr. Bronner's. I think there is so much fragrance in this, it is actually stinging my skin.

Mmm, smooth skin!

I don't think I've ever tried a better lotion. Wonderful product that I will continue to buy!

Dr. Bronners Sun Dog

by Stephana M. Johnson from Austin, TX on 2008-12-02
I like patchouli and lime, felt the lotion was a bit watery and seeing that as the first ingredient I can see why. I make my own lotion and wanted to try this. If you like a watery lotion this would be fine, I prefer a thicker, richer lotion. The smell lasts quite a while and passes to clothing.

I love this lotion!

A fantastic all-natural and ethically-produced soap from everyone's favorite rabbi-chemist

by buru buru piggu from New York, NY USA on 2010-09-03
This review is for the 18-in-1 Hemp Peppermint 16 oz soap. The dropdown for all the different scents and sizes is quite a nightmare, but the hemp peppermint one is 5th from the bottom of the list.I've been using Dr. Bronner's soaps for many years now and love his products. Many people know this brand from the eccentric writing that covers the entire surface of the bottle, espousing the late rabbi-chemist's philosophy and spiritual views (on the unity of mankind: "We're All-One, or none"). It wraps around the label, some of it's written vertically, some in very tiny print. It's idiosyncratic to say the least and gives me something to read while I'm in the shower. But aside from that, it's just a fantastic soap and you can feel good about supporting a company that believes in doing right by the world. It's 100% natural, biodegradable, not tested on animals, supports Fair Trade, ingredients are certified organic, and the bottle is made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic. It is type 1 PETE plastic, so it is accepted by municipal recycling collection. The bottle even encourages you to conserve by refilling from gallon jugs or drums at the store. The soap works into a very rich lather and smells very nice. It smells like peppermint candy and rinses off cleanly, without a filmy, slippery feeling many liquid soaps leave. I keep a bottle of it in my gym bag. I cannot recommend this soap more. It's simply fantastic.

Bronner's Liquid Peppermint Soap

by a0188279 from Texas on 2010-09-03
I read the great reviews and although I agree that the soap smells really nice, it was quite a thin liquid. I wanted to make some foaming hand wash with it, but I had to add some really thick body wash to make it not squirt out and all over the place. When I added water and shook it, the mixture for the foaming hand soap pump turned an opaque white.Overall, the soap reminds me of diluted soapy Pine-Sol. The price is a bit high for what you get, but because I love the smell I think I will just buy some peppermint oil next time.Positives: The soap was not irritating to my skin and left my hands soft and smooth. I have sensitive skin. It did not tingle or feel like menthol shaving cream or anything, but I used just a tiny bit to wash my hands. Overall I like it, but I feel that the price is double what I actually think it's worth to me.I haven't tried this peppermint soap in the shower yet. I'll update later if it's really much better in the shower than as hand washing soap. Note that this soap does not appear to be super-concentrated. It is about as thin as the foaming hand soap refill liquid.

Unpleasantly Surprised

by Ashley Pedersen from Des Plaines, IL on 2010-08-17
I researched the hell out of Dr. Bronner's when I wanted a more natural shampoo/soap, and it received nothing but positive responses - so I bought it in Peppermint. The smell is lovely, but it DOES NOT wash my hair, though it is advertised as an 18-in-1 magic soap - shampoo included.Let me preface by saying I have VERY thick hair. The first time I noticed that it wasn't clean was while I was camping. After a shower, the back of my hair felt wet and heavy for WAY too long, so I checked it out in the bathroom, and it looked like my hair was greasy and filled with residue. At first I dismissed it based on the water pressure from camping. When I returned home, I used Dr. Bronner's on my hair two days in a row, taking special care to make sure my hair was completely rinsed. By the second day, my hair was gnarly and matted in the back.Unfortunately, even using this as a body wash makes my skin feel tight. I REALLY wanted to like this shampoo. I was hoping it would change my life.

Beautiful scent and very good yield!

by M. V. Vooren from USA on 2010-07-27
Just read their description, it pretty much says it all! I love this soap, it is very economical, produces a great, silky and foamy lather with only one turn under the water faucet! I won't change it for any other!

Best product ever

by Radar626 from on 2010-07-18
I have heard a lot about this soap, and finally I broke down and got a bottle of the peppermint. It is amazing stuff.**Completely organic**Smells amazing, but strong even when diluted. It goes away pretty quickly though.**Fantastic for sensitive skin. I used to be able to use whatever I wanted, but thanks to immune system problems, I had to switch to completely natural/organic body and household products. Especially with how hot this summer has been, the peppermint makes for a totally refreshing shower or quick hand/face cooling wash.**Safe for color treated hair since it doesn't have any sulfates which is what fades color. You do need to use conditioner though if you use this for shampoo.**Great for pets too. I checked with a couple of vets and all three agreed this was a very safe wash, especially since it contains no funky chemicals. And yes, whatever scent used fades pretty quickly, though a minty or lavender scented dog is much preferable to one that just rolled in a dead rabbit. Trust me on this one....**It is super concentrated. Since it can be diluted one part soap to 40 parts water, a bottle can last months. For heavier, dirtier jobs, I add a bit more soap. Best part? No filmy residue that makes me have to go back and rinse mop the floor several times. A really welcome change for me from most commercial and some natural products.**Works well in my HE washing machine since it's low sudsing.**I haven't used it for some of the other uses like tooth brushing, but I imagine it would work well for that, too.Yep, I am pretty pleased with this soap. It's hard to find a product nowadays that really does live up to it's promises. It may not work for everyone, but I really recommend getting the smallest bottle just to try it out. One of it's 18 uses is bound to work for you.

So Far Great Soap!

by JimmyBond from on 2010-07-23
I've been looking for a soap that doesn't cater to dry skin. I've never had a problem with my skin drying, and normally I'm looking for some kind of soap to get rid of my oily skin. This Tea Tree Oil Soap has seemed to be the missing part. After a few days of use I notice my skin doesn't feel near as oily, but without drying it out completely; which was exactly what I was hoping forOne thing Amazon doesn't mention that Dr. Bronner's official site does, is that this is an oil based, or oil-like soap. So when you initially pour it out into your hands or a loofah, it pours quickly like water; unlike most gel type body washes. However it does lather up quite well, and doesn't require a lot of soap to get a lot of lather. The feeling on your skin after you wash it off is much like using a bar soap (I've always described it as a clammy feel), but it isn't unpleasant. Also of note, it does leave a noticeable scent which could be a problem for someone with allergy problems (Though it doesn't bother mine). If you're looking for a soap to combat oily skin, this could be the product for you!

Best soap you'll ever use.

by Douglas B. Baumgarten from Aldie, VA USA on 2009-10-05
This soap is absolutely amazing. I was already a fan of Dr. Bronner's castile/oil soaps, but this formula is incredible: it cleans absolutely any dirt - sweat, bicycle grease, etc. - yet somehow does it without drying your skin! I can use it to get grime off my hands - then also use it to wash my face without drying it out. I use it in the shower, etc. I don't think I'll ever buy any other soap or body wash again.

USDA Certified Organic!

by Kitten Kisser from on 2007-05-01
I am very pleased with the ingredients list for this product. It is hard to find beauty products that are truly organic. My only complaint is It's very greasy! You will leave grease prints wherever you go! I can see this being good for "spot" treatment on skin but not on large areas for this reason. It has a smell but it is faint & I don't think it should cause any problems for a person sensitive to scents. I work with a person sensitive to scent & they didn't have any issues when I used it.You might want to check out a brand called Collective Wellbeing. They have a scent free hand lotion. I like this the best out of all the lotions I've tried so far! BUT Amazon has yet to offer it as of my review.....

Smells great and really mosturizes

by Trying to go organic from on 2006-10-21
I bought "Naked" but wondered how it would smell. Honestly it smells just like honey (since it has a lot of the beeswax). It's great for chapped feet from the summer or whatever--for me it helps prevent cracking in between toes, which regular mosturizing lotion fails to do. As for the tattoo usage, I don't know--with all my sensitivity issues I don't think my skin would react well to a tattoo!
