Does baby oil work better than sun block?

I've heard that using baby oil helps your skin resist the suns rays better than sun block, but I haven't tested it out for fear of getting burned worse than with out using some type of sun block.

Baby oil will fry you like bacon!!! Trust ME!! Orange Ozone Today...use at least 50 spf

Prevent Premature Skin Aging with Sun Block

Wrinkles have a great influence on a person’s self-confidence. The stigma connected to an old looking face is demonstrated by the reality that Americans are spending some12 billion dollars every year for cosmetics just to conceal the signs of aging.

The sun’s role cannot be miscalculated and is the primary cause of the skin’s premature aging. Ultraviolet radiation (UVA and UVB) originating from exposure to the sun, produce up to 90 percent of premature “skin aging” symptoms.
•    Even minute UV radiation amounts activate the process that can cause skin wrinkles.

•    Long-term accumulative and repetitive sunlight exposure is responsible for the majority of unwanted consequences, including squamous and basal “cell carcinomas”.

•    Melanoma is caused by extreme sun exposure in early childhood.

Sunlight consists of UVA or UVB radiation that penetrates the skin layers and damages it resulting in wrinkles, pigmentation of the skin, discoloration, freckles, etc.

•    UVB is the main driving force of sun burning which primarily affects the skin’s outer layers.

•    UVA penetrates more deeply and the intensity does not fluctuate during the day.

Tips on using the correct sun block:

1.  Make sure that the brand provides both UVB & UVA absorption.  Read the label and check; it should provide “broad spectrum” protection to absorb both UVB and UVA rays.

2.  Make certain that it will disperse heat. Your sun block formula must spread around the energy of the sun with particles that disperse light to reduce heat buildup.

3.  It should absorb radiation.  Read the label and make sure that it contains natural products which absorb infrared radiation.

4. It should protect you from free radicals.  Your sun block should be formulated with extracts from natural herbs to shield the skin cell membranes and prevent damage caused by free radicals.

5. It should deliver liposomes.  Ascertain that the sun block has microscopic liposomes which periodically release directly to your skin.

6.  Your sun block must have emollients to soften, moisten, and delay skin’s premature aging. Certain herbal ingredients such as aloe vera, coco butter, vitamins, and amino acids, promote healthy skin.

Your skin cared for as early as possible and by using the right choice of products and understanding the type of your skin. Use sun block to shield your skin from the sun and prevent wrinkles.

Description

Dermatologist recommended. Non-comedogenic, oil-free. UVA - Same Everyday: UVA radiation, unlike UVB, is consistently the same all day long, all year long. UVA rays present the same damaging effects to the skin in December as they do in July. UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin than UVB, and are believed by many physicians to be more harmful, which is why patients with sun sensitivity require daily, year round complete protection. Total Block 65 has been specifically formulated for individuals who require full spectrum protection from the sun's damaging effects. Total Block contains a complete cellular and photoprotective system. SPF - Not Enough: SPF is not an accurate determination of a sunscreen's capability of protection from the sun's harmful rays. It is only an indication of protection from one wavelength of light, UVB. It does not indicate protection from UVA rays, which are responsible for deeper damage, including tanning, wrinkles, pigmentation changes and premature skin aging. Currently, there is no rating system for UVA protection. Made in USA.

Fallene Total Block Clear SPF 65 is a highly effective sunscreen product formulated with photo-protective and cellular-protective agents that are beneficial to the skin. Total Block is unique in its ability to protect skin from the full light spectrum and prevent cellular environmental damage to the skin, regardless of the source of the pollutants. Incorporating eight forms of mill-dispersed solids -- ranging in controlled particle size from 10 microns down to a few nanometers -- Total Block achieves maximum protection throughout the entire UVB and UVA range. These particles are homogeneously suspended and work to shield the skin from atmospheric damage and trauma. Micronized and sub-micronized particles of titanium dioxide, sub-micronized zinc oxide, and ultra-micronized iron oxide form the foundation of this powerful, effective sunscreen. .caption { font-family: Verdana, Helvetica neue, Arial, serif; font-size: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; } ul.indent { list-style: inside disc; text-indent: 20px; } table.callout { font-family: Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, serif; margin: 10px; width: 250; } td.callout { height: 100 percent; background: #9DC4D8 url(http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/callout-bg.png) repeat-x; border-left: 1px solid #999999; border-right: 1px solid #999999; padding: 10px; width: 250px; } ul.callout { list-style: inside disc; text-indent: -12px; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.5em; } h5.callout { text-align: center; } The Total Block Clear SPF 65 offers: Full-spectrum sun protection. Combined multiple particle sizes of titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and iron oxide. Special formula that is perfect for photo-sensitive individuals. Fallene Total Block Clear SPF 65 sunscreen combines multiple particle sizes of titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and iron oxide to offer excellent full-spectrum protection. The Full-Spectrum Sun Protection Fallene, Ltd. produces the most complete full spectrum sun protection available. Total Block Clear SPF 65, Cotz SPF 58, Lipcotz SPF 45, and Total Block Tinted SPF 60, all combine multiple particle sizes of micronized titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and iron oxide to form a complete barrier from the light spectrum, including UVA/UVB. The Total Block Clear SPF 65, as well as the other Fallene products, are specially designed for photo-sensitive individuals, but are perfect for anyone concerned about maintaining healthy skin and promoting the integrity of their immune system. The Dangers of UVB Wavelengths SPF rating does not adequately measure protection from all the damaging radiation effects of light. SPF is only a determination of protection from one specific wavelength of ultraviolet radiation, the UVB (290nm - 320nm). Unfortunately, there is no currently approved standard to rate the quality of a sunscreen's UVA protective capabilities. UVA (320nm - 400nm) is the deeper penetrating wavelength that is more often associated with skin changes, such as wrinkling, pigmentation, and long term damage. The SPF rating system does not accurately or completely define a sunscreen's protective capabilities from harmful ultraviolet radiation, except the UVB wavelength. UVB creates a red, painful irritation first experienced during early sun exposure, but UVB is not the only ultraviolet wavelength damaging to the skin. In fact, UVB has only a minimal effect upon the deeper depth of skin. UVB and UVA radiation are both recognized as causing skin cancer, and SPF 30 protection is just not enough. Direct Physical Photoblockers Benefits Most of the physical photoblockers are naturally occurring metal compounds (iron, chromium, zinc, titanium, etc), although some, such as bismuth, are man-made. In addition to their photo-protective attributes, these substances also assist in preventing windburns and skin damage from wind-driven micro-particles, such as dirt and grime. These physical blockers also offer a substantial defense against infrared rays in two ways. Winter, spring, summer or fall -- no matter what the season, Lipcotz SPF 45 protects your skin from harmful rays. Minimize wrinkling, skin-damage, and photo-aging with Fallene sun-protection products. First, particles that are large enough to be seen, i.e. the reflect visible light, will also reflect and refract infrared waves that are the most harmful to the skin (760nm - 1,800nm). Second, regardless of particle size, these metal-based materials act as a "heat sink" and thereby reduce the heat effect on the skin. Titanium Dioxide: Absorbs Light and Protects Skin This white-pigment powder is widely used in cosmetics. Products containing large-particle titanium have a greater opacity, which means they have greater lightening or whitening qualities. Opaque titanium dioxide is highly reflective and strongly scatters all UV and visible rays. It also reflects much of the skin-damaging infrared waves, keeping skin cooler and reducing "heat" damage that causes unwanted photo-aging. To photo-stabilize titanium dioxide it must be micro-coated with a protectant, such as silicone or aluminum oxide. Since titanium dioxide spreads poorly on the skin, another way to inhibit its breakdown is to incorporate titanium dioxide with other blockers. To achieve cosmetic elegance and usefulness, microcoating the titanium dioxide assures a good, even application to the skin. A downside of large-particle titanium dioxide products is that they produce a white, opaque appearance on the skin when applied. However, submicronizing the titanium dioxide powder, as Fallene does, creates small particles that absorb visible light and protect the skin, but they're still invisible on the skin, so you're not covered in embarrassing white salve. Transparent (sub-micronized) titanium dioxide works by absorbing, reflecting and scattering UVB and some UVA rays. However, protection against UV, visible and infrared is significantly limited when submicronized titanium dioxide is the primary protectant. Zinc Oxide: Extends Photo-Protection Zinc Oxide has been known and used topically for centuries as a skin protectant and wound-healing adjuvant and is also recognized as a mild antimicrobial agent. More than 50 years ago, zinc oxide was indicated as a block for ultraviolet light (UVB/UVA). It also reflects infrared from the skin, as does titanium dioxide. However, its ability to protect in the long UVA range (300nn - 400nm) is much higher than titanium dioxide. Zinc oxide absorbs, rather than scatters, most UVA, while titanium dioxide primarily scatters these wavelengths. Thus, formulated in combination with titanium dioxide, ultra-fine zinc oxide "closes the window" in the UVA range. Zinc oxide works to both complement titanium dioxide's protection and extend photo-protection to the skin where titanium dioxide is insufficient. The optimal particle size range for ultraviolet blocking zinc oxide (without blocking visible wavelengths) is approximately 80 to 150 nanometers (1,000 nanometers = 1 micron). Iron Oxides: Adds Color and Complements Primary UV Blocking Agents Iron oxide is used in a wide array of cosmetics to provide cover-up color. Cosmetic iron oxides are manufactured to a high purity, desired color and particle size. Iron oxide pigments for cosmetic use are micronized powders. They are available in a number of shades and tones of red, yellow, black and brown. These cosmetic pigments, if incorporated at adequate concentration and properly dispersed, not only add color, but they also provide significant skin protection from multiple wavelengths of light. Ultra-submicronized iron oxides protect against visible light waves, but also add a little color to the finished product. This allows for the addition of higher levels of infrared protecting iron oxides, while retaining the cosmetic elegance and shade of the final preparation. Submicronized iron oxides block ultraviolet rays, which is a great complement to the primary UV blocking agents. What's in the Box Fallene Total Block Clear SPF 65 sunscreen (2.0 fluid ounces).

This product offers great sun protection and can be used easily under makeup. It does not leave your skin shiny or have a greasy feeling. The tinted color can be changed to match your skin tone. This does rub off on clothes though, so apply on face and neck after you are dressed. I would have given it 5 stars if it didn't come off on clothes.

BEST SUNBLOCK EVER

by Kerri Kirkland from on 2010-07-09
This is the best sunblock ever. I have tried many sunblocks. I have dark spots on my skin from growing up in Florida and now living in California. I have tried everthing to get rid of the brown spots and finally I have found a product to fade the brown spots and a sunblock that acutally blocks the sun and prevents them from coming back.I was hesitant even with all the reviews but decided to give it a try and I am so glad I did. The color is perfect and the the fact that they give you the ability to mix it to make it lighter and darker is so amazing. I really can't say enough good things about this block AND my skin looks amazing, no break outs or anything. I signed up for automatic shipments, I will never try anything else. VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER!

INEFFECTIVE They've changed the formula!

by Lynn from St. Louis, MO USA on 2010-07-09
I've been using Fallene Total Block UVA/UVB clear SPF 65 sunblock for a few years. I was so happy to have discovered this product since I was allergic to most other sunscreens. I recently ordered a bottle again and I used it once. I GOT SUNBURNED! I couldn't believe it, because it used to be totally effective. I compared the ingredients to my old bottle and the active ingredients have changed. Very disappointing. I have switched to Blue Lizard for sensitive skin and I like it but it's only SPF 35 not 65.

Sunblock after laser surgery

by D. Bush from Panama City, FL on 2010-03-24
Bought this product tinted and untinted for total protection after laser surgery. I had to mix the tinted product with a little moisturizer for a smooth finish. The tint was easy to mix to match my skin. The non-tinted subblock leaves a white finish on the face. Products gave good protection as I was walking around an amusement park four days in a row and didn't burn. Overall a good product.

Best sun block

by Gary L. Wild from Hawaii on 2010-02-24
This product was recommended to me by my dermatologist. It does a great job of protecting me. I am a golf rules official and am out in the Hawaii sun for hours at a time. This stuff doesn't let me burn. Don't know how I did without it for so long.

best non sticky sunblock

by Feles31 from Honolulu, HI United States on 2010-09-02
I use this mostly on my body but have also used it on my face. So far the best texture which is not so dry it is hard to get onto your skin but absorbs quite quickly so you are not left so sticky. Unscented smell is still slightly sunblock-chemical but not as strong as others I have tried and prefer it to be as unscented as possible to not clash with cologne.

Best around

by Peter Passell from on 2010-08-21
Presumably the 100+ SPF offers more protection than earlier versions (though there seems to be considerable controversy about the real value of the SPF ratings). In any case, the cream goes on surprisingly easily. The only downside: because the protection is partially based on physically blocking the sun with metallic oxides, it never entirely disappears on your skin.

Affirming Review by L. Croker - DOES NOT WORK

by Thomas Allen from Minneapolis, MN USA on 2010-07-10
I fully agree with the comment/rating left by L. Croker. This product DOES NOT WORK! I'm the kind of person who tans quickly and easily. Blame it on genetics. My wife, on the other hand, is extremely fair. A few months ago, I purchased 3 tubes of the 100SPF sunscreen at our local retailer because (a) it was marked $5.99 and (b) it was on sale for 25% off (they've since raised the price to $10.99). After trying it, my wife (who gardens) stated that it didn't work. I decided to test the product myself and applied a liberal amount to my face (which is very brown). After 2 hours in the pool with my 6-year-old, with minimal water contact to my face and no sweating, I came in looking like I'd been at the beach all day with no sunscreen at all - very red. My wife's reaction - "SEE?!!!" It appears to work as a UV accelerator and that's not good at all.

Don't Bother

by L. Croker from San Jose, CA on 2010-06-06
This is a horrible sunscreen, no where near 100 SPF protection at all. You may as well just apply some random skin lotion with no SPF. Save your money and get a different brand.

The Best

by Janet Narva from Medford, OR on 2008-06-08
I have used other physical sunblocks before but they usually were greasy or my makeup smeared over them (and I have oily skin). This product goes on smoothly with NO greasiness at all. My makeup blends over it very nicely. There is a slight whiteness on my face but I expect that with these products.

My holy grail of sunscreens

by stirfry from on 2010-08-12
This is the only sunscreen I've tried that has the safety profile I'm looking for and a clear matte finish. It also doesn't clog my pores or make me break out. Sun Shield is zinc based and doesn't contain the usual chemical suspects like PABA, avobenzone, oxybenzone, etc. but unlike most zinc sunscreens it's invisible. It's also scentless. Not only can I wear it at work without anyone knowing, it doesn't sting my eyes during athletic activities. This is the only sunscreen I've found that has all the features I want.

Great Product

by M. Dardeno from Boston on 2010-08-05
This facial sunblock is easy to rub in, non-greasy or oily (which is great for me because I sometimes break out), and doesn't irritate. In the summer, I use this as a moisturizer after washing my face in the morning and then reapply if I'm in the sun for extended periods. It was rated highly on the Environmental Working Group (EWG) website as it contains no carcinogens and minimal toxins (it's impossibly for a sunblock to be completely free of toxins and actually work). It's a broad spectrum sunblock as well which means that it protects well against a large range of UVB and UVA wavelengths of light.Highly recommended :)

good suncream

by sosu from on 2010-07-16
I like this sunscreen cream. It absorbed on the skin and doesn't leave any residue. The price is reasonable. Each tube lasted for two months.

Peeling was a problem

by CatEyeReader from on 2010-05-12
Dried my face and made me peel! I liked the cosmetic finish, but I can't use it. I'm a fair-skinned skinned 30-something redhead.I tried using it on my body, but it's not water resistant and ran in little white rivulets.Very sad. :(

best ever sunscreen

by Shoe Gal from Westport, CT on 2010-05-10
Finally, a sunscreen I can wear every day, under make-up, absorbs immediately, no white-ish cast, and my skin feels softer and smoother as an added unexpected bonus. I am so pleased with the sunsceeen that I will be replacing all of my old products and starting fresh with a Mychelle regime of skincare.

LIKE JALAPENO IN THE EYES!

by D. Leslie from Hermosa beach, ca on 2010-05-31
It feels like you have just rubbed an open jalapeno in your eyes if you get this stuff in them. MOMS BEWARE!!!!! I tested it when it got in my daughter's eyes so I would know the severity of the situation and it was shocking, disturbing and frankly just WRONG on their part to produce a product this aggressively irritating and label it for babies. Babies rub their eyes when they are tired!!DON'T BUY IT!!!!!! Buy Ban Bt Tear Free or another tear free brand.

Great Sunblock for WHOLE Family!

by Kerosene from Philly on 2008-07-19
This sunblock is great for all four of us! My husband and I use it some, and our 3-yr-old daughter wears it daily in the summer. And... although it's generally suggested to avoid putting sunblock on babies less than 6 months, this worked beautifully for our 5-mo-old son! Although we mostly kept him out of the sun, we didn't want to risk sun burn. He did NOT break out in any kind of rash with Aveeno Baby! Try a small area first, in case your baby doesn't react as well - but for us, it's the PERFECT sunblock.

Stains

by Mom of 2 from on 2010-05-25
I realize that his product states that it "may stain some fabrics"; however, it has ruined two bathing suits and two t-shirts so far (in one day). Customer service told me that it was because we had well water and iron reacts with the Avobenzone in it. So why don't they just say that? If you have a swimming pool or let your kids play with a sprinkler and use well water, be prepared to possibly buy new clothes.

Great sunscreen stick

by L. Lehoucq from on 2010-06-26
I use many Neutrogena products because I have sensitive skin that has always responded well to their products. I especially like this sunblock stick because, unlike other sunblock sticks I've tried, the stick is rectangle shaped instead of a circle. This means I can apply the sunscreen to my kids faces with less strokes and better coverage. I don't know that the sunscreen is any better than any other stick product, but I prefer this kind of applicator.

Kids liked it

by C. Charleson from Redmond, WA USA on 2010-04-07
Our kids greatly preferred using this on their face. I would get it again for that purpose.if you don't roll it back down, it can stick to the cap and come off and be stuck in the cap (which you then need to bang on a hard surface to get it out).

Great sunscreen for skiing

Great sunscreen. Nice compact container, lasts a long time, not oily, doesn't get into your eyes when you sweat. Can use on your face including lips. Perfect for keeping in your pocket of your ski jacket. Highly recommended for spring skiing or any other aerobic outdoor activity.

great for running

by csb from on 2009-10-28
I use this sunblock on my face while doing long distance runs. It is one of the few sunblocks I have found that does not cause my skin to break out. It seems to be rather sweatproof as well, easily holding up for a 13 mile run.

Doesn't cause breakouts

by C.P. from USA on 2009-07-14
I've tried all the expensive moisturizers with sunscreen, and they all made my skin break out. I have been using Neutrogena for two weeks now, and haven't had any breakouts. I wash my face and immediately apply the sunblock (and I don't add a moisturizer). It doesn't feel greasy and my makeup goes on great right over it (I use Estee Lauder powder foundation.). It also really works. I went to the beach for 4th of July weekend without a hat and didn't get burned. We were out in direct sunlight for 4 hours. Also, the price on Amazon was really good. It was $8.50 for one stick at the drugstore.

Description

Sun Block Technology - Sawyer Products provides a variety of sunscreen lotions, featuring Bonding Base® technology, from a SPF 30 to a SPF 45. These products were developed in the 1980's with the use of outdoor testing in Hawaii under Ultra Violet radiation (UV) conditions more intense than in the U.S. mainland. UV radiation is one of the most important factors in the development of risk for skin cancer. Bonding Base Sun Blocks feature a unique technology that allows the lotion to attach to the skin and therefore resist water and physical abrasion. This allows the products to remain on the skin much longer than non-bonding base sunscreens. They provide UVA and UVB protection, and are hypoallergenic, waterproof, greaseless, and fragrance free.Stringent Testing - The Bonding Base Sun Blocks are included in stringent testing programs. They are tested routinely as part of an ongoing stability program and have proven to be stable for a minimum of five years. The products have also been tested under laboratory and rugged outdoor conditions to determine their safety and efficacy.Field Tests - Sawyers Bonding Base® Sun Blocks were tested in a variety of actual field use situations, beyond the scope of what is required by the FDA, and were found to show the following: Resists the combination of perspiration and water abrasion Resists physical abrasion (clothes may be worn over these sunscreens) Maintains efficacy at high altitude (tested above 9000 ft.) Maintains efficacy in dry climates (tested in low humidity) Maintains efficacy in tropical climates (tested in high humidity) All day protection (tested for five consecutive days under intense UV conditions)

The Best Out There!

by Roger Singleton from Florida, USA on 2007-11-07
I happened across this product indirectly after buying some of Sawyer's insect repellant in preparation for a two-month cross country camping trip a few summers ago. The literature with the repellant impressed me with the company's scientific approach, including the R & D behind their sunscreen, so I decided to buy some. It was hard to find and I had to order it on line, but boy, was it worth it! We headed out on our trip (me, my wife, and my three young boys) and spent all summer out doors all day. All we had to do was put on the Sawyer Sun-Block once in the morning and that was it! None of us ever burned. When I got home to Florida, I ordered a bunch more. Our morning routine, every day here in the land of sunshine, is to brush our teeth and put on sunscreen immediately after waking up. (This sunscreen does have to be applied before your skin gets hot.) For normal days, we don't have to worry about sunscreen the rest of the day. The only time we've had to re-apply (Sawyers #2--designed for application to hot skin) is if we spend all day out on the boat--the double whammy of the sun's reflection off the water requires a mid-day booster. We've been very impressed with the product, and I'm very happy to discover that I can now order it from Amazon.

The best sunblock I've used

by LSC from Virginia USA on 2006-07-24
I am very fair-skinned and have tried many different kinds of sunblocks over the years with varying degrees of success. Most of the time, they completely block out all of the sun, and I stay very white. This is OK, except that most formulas don't last very long and need to be re-applied constantly. Some other products simply don't work at all on my fair skin, leaving me with a bad sunburn after only an hour of exposure.Sawyer Stay-Put is different, though. It lasts for hours, and it manages to let some of the sun's rays through so that for the first time in my life, I actually have a bit of a tan! I have never gotten burned while using Sawyer Stay-Put, and I have been out in the sun all day, only having to re-apply once at mid-day.I am so happy I found this product. Sawyer Products has a customer for life!
