It is imperative that growers and gardeners understand the requirements of shadow of plants before planting in shade gardens. Dappled shade consists of deciduous trees and shade plants such as Epimedium, Anemone, Trillium, and a variety of bulbs thrive in this type of shade. Partial shade conditions include exposure to sunlight in the morning and shade in the afternoon. Most plants, except those requiring excessive sunlight, can adapt to partial shade conditions. Gardening in the deep shade, which is created between the structures high as buildings, can be very difficult. Plants like Summersweet (clethera) grow in the shade. It is recommended to add compost to the soil to provide nutrition for plants. It also increases the water holding capacity of soil.
